Anderson Regional Medical Center
Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
A. Professional Requirements:
o Performs basic patient care responsibilities, including obtain vital signs, finger stick glucose, feeding patients, maintaining fluid balance, etc. considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
o Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge/head nurse, co-workers, and physicians.
o Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patient; answers questions within scope of practice.
o Maintains awareness of and responds to the needs of the patients, including communication needs, and emergency or physically distressful situations.
o Provides basic care to patients within the scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs.
o Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patient.
o Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
o Demonstrates an ability to perform services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of a RN.
o Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and functions under stressful situations.
o Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift.
o Demonstrates knowledge of disease entities.
o Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
o Communicates with Social Services/Discharge Planner regarding both in-hospital and post discharge needs.
o Participates in age-specific competency process.
o Assists in orientation of new employees.
o Attends mandatory staff meetings.
o Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as appropriate.
o Ensures confidentiality of patient's records.
o Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to observe, monitor, and communicate pertinent information with the health care team regarding observations noted during patient sitter assignments.
B. Education/Regulatory Requirements:
o High School/GED
o BLS/CPR required.
C. Language Skills:
o Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
o Must meet one of the following requirements:
1. Be a 4th Semester ADN student in good standing awaiting graduation.
2. ADN Graduate awaiting State Board exam.
